Welcome to the document archiving demonstration and information page

Facts:

Every organisation has to keep its business documents for a number of years as directed by local legislation and regulation. There is a substantial cost (and risk) in keeping paper records. Digital copies of documents and audit records are clearly the answer to this problem but they can be changed very easily so authenticity and integrity are mandatory requirements.
Digital signatures and timestamps ensure the authenticity, integrity and demonstrate the original recorded existence of a document or data.
German law now requires archive evidence to be protected by digital signatures that use higher strength cryptography (RSA 2048bit signatures using SHA-512 hashes)

Solution Sheets:
There are two main approaches to archiving:
Sign and/or timestamp documents or data with a long lifetime digital certificate so that the signature remains valid for at least the required archive period. Alternatively use a long-term digital signature format that may actually expire, but the necessary information to show that it was valid at the time of signing is embedded.
Use a solution such as the Trusted Archive Server which provides a capability for refreshing the archive evidence to ensure that even after certificate lifetimes have expired, and it allows for enhancements in key lengths and hash algorithms to enable archiving for 25+ years and is designed to enable archiving for 100+ years using a draft industry standard evidence record syntax

Demonstration Description
PDF with a long-term signature This PDF document has a long-term signature, i.e. it includes a timestamp and OCSP validation on the signing certificate.
XAdES-A archive format signature This XML file includes a word document with an enveloping XAdES ES-A signature which you can download and review.
LTANS Document Archiving This example shows how a document and some example metadata can be bound into an RFC 4810 compliant LTANS (Long Term Archive and Notary Signing) system in order to meet business needs for secure long-term evidence archiving.
