Welcome to the signature verification demonstration
and information page
Facts:
|
|
|
| |
|
 |
A digital signature needs
to be verified to show that the data it
is protecting is unchanged |
 |
A digital signature’s certificate
chain needs to be validated to show that
the signing entity is
shown as valid and is from a trusted certificate
authority |
 |
Quality is also an important consideration
- DNV and Ascertia have defined a validation
protocol that can return a quality rating
for the signature so that organisations
can determine if the level of trust is sufficient
for the relevant business use. |

Digital
signatures provide essential trust services
for electronic documents to: |
| |
 |
Bind the signer’s personal
or corporate identity to the document |
| |
 |
Provide legal weight evidence of approval
by the signer |
| |
 |
Ensure that the document has not changed
since it was signed |
| |
 |
Demonstrate clear sign-off and approval
of final documents |
| |
 |
Show the date and time at which the document
was signed |

can be used.

|
| |
 |
PDFs are the most comment document
type to be signed because everyone has access
to free PDF Reader software which can display
and trust digital signatures. |
| |
 |
XML data is becoming commonplace although
specialist software clients or web-viewers are
required to allow people to read the data and
check the signature(s). |
| |
 |
Files, webforms and other data can also be
signed – usually with a PKCS#7/CMS signature
and these can also be base64 encoded to create
S/MIME data objects suitable for emails. |
